Constructing an Eco-Friendly Home

About Me

Constructing an Eco Friendly Home

If you are interested in constructing an eco-friendly home, you have come to the right place. My name is Gerry and for the past year or so I have been learning all I can about how I can make the home I plan to build as green and as environmentally friendly as possible. I started out by contacting a local environmental green energy company. An agent from the company was able to give me some great advice which really helped me to understand the different options available to me. I hope you enjoy this blog and that it helps you to go green.

5 Tips for Improving Indoor Air Quality

Air quality can have a huge impact on your family's health and wellbeing. For example, people who suffer from asthma can react very badly to poor air quality, while people who have allergies may notice that their symptoms flare up. Use these five tips to improve your home's air quality and help your family breathe easier.

1. Keep Your Carpets Clean

Many air pollutants collect in carpets, including dust, hair, cigarette chemicals, pollen and even mould spores. If you do not regularly clean your carpets, these pollutants build up in your home, causing symptoms including airway irritation and itchy or red eyes. Regular vacuuming can help to limit the buildup of pollutants in your carpet, but only professional carpet cleaning can completely eliminate them.

2. Clean Air Conditioning Filters

Air conditioning systems not only cool the air that circulates within your home but also cleans it by filtering out pollutants. Over time, dust and dirt buildup on the filter of an air conditioning system, limiting its ability to remove any more of these pollutants from the air.

To restore your home air conditioning system to full working order, open the air conditioning unit and remove the filters. Clean these filters using a handheld vacuum or with water and a soft brush. When they are clean and dry, reinsert them into the air conditioning unit to improve air quality in your home.

3. Share Your Home With Plants

Plants naturally soak up chemicals such as carbon monoxide and formaldehyde, while releasing oxygen into the air. The best species for homes with low air quality are hardy species, including bamboo palm or Chinese evergreen. All you need to do is give them plenty of space and light and remember to water them occasionally.

4. Purchase an Air Purifier

If you do not have space for plants, or they do not fit in with your interior aesthetic, an air purification device can perform the same role. Air purifiers remove pollutants from the air, allowing everyone in your family to breathe more easily.

5. Invest in Air Quality Services

Air quality services can test the air in your home to find out which sources of pollution are responsible for the problem. They can then advise you on the most effective ways to improve the air quality in your home. The suggested solutions may combine the tips given here with more specialist methods for improving indoor air quality.
